Michael Jackson 1958-2009

The King of Pop Michael Jackson is no more. June 25th 2009, the world lost a gem, the King of Pop.

I grew up to his music, was a tiny tot when MJ had already created ripples in the music world. I remember watching his videos eagerly every time they aired it on Doordarshan. I remember dad taping these videos onto his VCR . I remember we bunch of building friends could not make it to his concert in Mumbai, so just to get a glimpse of the light show we went to the building terrace from where we could see the concert stadium.

R.I.P Michael Jackson, no matter what you will always live in our hearts.

Windows 7 RC On Dell Studio 15

Windows 7 is quite the buzz word these days for any blue blooded techy, the up comming operating system sure has caught on the frenzy of millions of people this time including MAC owners.
Just a few months back Windows released the Public Release Candidate of this new OS, I have downloaded this RC and have given it a whirr on desktop already.
A stroll through technology community boards show the enthusiasm with which people have wanted to try the  WIndows 7 RC on to thier PC’s, Laptops. The intrest in trying to run this new OS is such that a magazine company has also tried installing 7 on a so called “Dinosour PC” which has a 1ghz processor and __ram.
Getting back to the Topic, after sucessfully installing the 1st Public Beta and now the Release Candidate on my Desktop I was curious as to how will this new OS run on my Laptop the Dell Studio 15. being fairly new ( I have never really used this laptop much) I was a bit skeptic onto trying the Public Beta but now that the RC was released I thought of installing the RC onto my Laptop.
My skeptism made me do up some homework and I tried searching up the net for anybody else who tried installing the RC on the Dell Studio 15, searching although was vain I landed up on a laptop community board where too there was no feedback as to if anybody had tried installing the RC. So I set up a thread in the Dell specific section of this forum and tried gauging any reactions from people who might have tried the RC but only a few responded with one stating he got quite a lot of Blue Screens (BSOD) installing the RC on his Dell Inspiron. Another guy did who responded had quite the smilar set up with mine had tried the RC and had successfully got the RC working.
Waiting for a couple of days to see if there were any more responses to this thead, I finally decided to go ahead since apart from these 2 guys no body else responded to the thread.
Installing the RC was fairly easy if you have installed the Vista before you will defintely be at home. After creating a partion for the RC I popped in the RC DVD and started off with the installation. Within atleast half an hour the RC was pretty much done installing, once the installation was done I was welcomed by the very famous Beta Fish.
The video drivers, audio drivers were all setup by default and were flawlessly working. The screen resolution was pre-configured during the setup itself and the audio too worked right out of the box. The only gripe I noticed after the installation finished was that the laptops touch pad would not work. This was although easily solved by using the Vista Alps touch pad drivers that were available on the driver cd’s that came with the laptop. Another hardware that did not get installed was the bluetooth module, the same vista drivers solved this issue as well.
I have a WIFI setup at home i.e a ADSL connection is connected to a Netgear Wireless router, since the wireless modules were installed without any issue I was able to connect to the internet within seconds. Speaking of WIFI I even got to use the Windows 7’s homegroup feature that enabled me to access all the specified data on my desktop wirelessly without actually sharing the folder the old school way. Apart from the new visual interface of 7 this homegroup feature really exites me.
While setting up Hpmegroup you are given a password inputting which will enable you to share data. A very simple feature that will not involve the old school way of sharing folders, all you have to now do is right click on a folder go to the share with option and click homegroup option with separate features as to giving read only or write as well rights to the folder. Once this done all you have to do is do a simple refresh at the other ends homegroup window and viola the folder will appear in the homegroup window.
So apart from the Touch Pad issue and the Bluetooth everything pretty much worked right out of the box. Just to be on the safer side I dowloaded Windows 7 specific ATI video card drivers installed the sound drivers off the Vista driver cd and as mentioned before the Touch Pad and the Bluetooth module drivers.
All in all a wonderful experience I am and all but loving this OS on my laptop, with news that the Windows 7 upgrade would be cheap I am already starting to save some money to buy this upgrade.

Windows 7 is quite the buzz word these days for any blue blooded techy, the upcoming operating system sure has caught on the frenzy of millions of people this time, including MAC owners.

Apple Safari 4 – Trick to replicate Opera’s Sessions or Chrome’s Restore Pages option

With Safari 4 released by apple many would like to try using this browser, likewise I too jumped into the fire and tried my hand at the new Safari 4.

safari_icon-1

The browser has a nice dose of the eye candy, the Cover Flow, the visual History pretty much the browser version iTunes.
Leaving the eye candy aside and talking about functionality one thing that hindered me from using the browser was the feature Sessions that we have in Opera and also chrome. In fact I was once a die-hard fan of Firefox but thanks to a buggy PC that crashed any time it wanted I kept loosing bookmarks and all the tabs that were open while browsing.

Opera pretty much saved me while that PC lasted, now Opera has pretty much become my default browser and no browser seems to take me away from it. Although Chrome a browser from Google though seems to have caught my fancy, the simple Ui and the “Most visited” feature is quite attractive.

Aircel Mumbai – Are you Brand Specific ??

Well there is a new Aircel store opened way back to my house, so out of curiosity I got myself a card (Rs 99, life time prepaid).
Some colleagues at work have got a post-paid and a pre-paid connection respectively so I knew the current condition of the network, I got this card albeit knowing this because the other ingredient that I mentioned earlier was stronger.
Now the horror starts.
I have a Sony Ericsson cell the W910i at my office the connection does not work at all, which would not be much of news to all but when it comes to peculiarity I will win hands down , atleast here.
Enter the scenario, 3 people standing outside the office.
Guy 1 – Aircell Post-Paid, Cell being Motorola Rockr E-6 the network = Full, Guy 2 – Aircell Pre-Paid, Cell Samsung (Double Speaker Model) the network = Full
Guy 3 (me) – Aircell Pre-Paid, Cell Sony Ericsson W910i the network = Emergency calls only
We tried swapping Sims, mine apparently works in a Samsung, Motorola but fails to work in a Nokia and of-course a Sony Ericsson.
My mom has a Samsung tried in it and the network worked like a charm, dad’s Sony Ericsson failed to spark a charm. As mentioned before in a friends Nokia  the network failed.
I wonder if Aircel is Brand Specific Lol!
